CASE STUDY

We Have The Same Dreams — a portrait of the L’Arche community

The film was made in two homes of the L'Arche community in Poznań — on Polańska and Żytnia streets. In front of the camera were residents, people supported by the community and others involved in its everyday life. Instead of speaking about them from the outside, we gave the protagonists their own voice. The film received a Special Mention at 4th Extraordinary Films Festival in Poznań in 2018.

The same questions, different answers

Each protagonist answered the same set of questions: Who are you? What do you like? What don't you like? What makes you sad? What do you pray for? What are you afraid of? What do you dream about?

This simple structure allowed us to focus on each person's personality, way of speaking and individual perspective.

A community through individual portraits

The film does not explain what disability is or tell the audience how to see its protagonists. We get to know them through their everyday preferences, joys, sadness, fears and the things they dream about.

The answers reveal the differences between the protagonists, but also lead to a simple conclusion: in many of the things that matter most, we have more in common than we might expect.
