Commercials, advertising spots, promotional films, promotional spots - are they the same?
Effective forms of advertising, as part of larger promotional campaigns, are a key marketing tool for companies. We think in images and are more likely to absorb knowledge presented in a visually appealing format. Film production encompasses many forms of video, very similar to each other, but for marketing purposes, these genres can be distinguished. Each serves a specific function at different stages of building a relationship with a potential customer.
When introducing ourselves to a new person, we typically don't share our entire biography immediately. As we get to know each other, additional information is shared based on our recipient's interest. It's similar in marketing communications – we first strive to create the best possible first impression, evoking positive emotions and associations, and then, over time, engage in a deeper relationship and share more.

In this way, both forms—advertising and promotional—complement each other, guiding us through the entire decision-making process—from gathering information to making a choice and making a purchase.

An advertising film or commercial is a short video format that highlights the benefits of a brand, service, or product. Its purpose is to engage the viewer and build curiosity to learn more about the offer. Here's a sample commercial:
As you can see, the editing is dynamic, short shots favor a light form, keywords only highlight the most important features, without overwhelming the viewer with excessive content, which at this stage is limited to the necessary minimum.
Film schools teach that a film is good when it can be watched without sound and when nothing else can be removed. This means the message is coherent, crisp, and understandable, without unnecessary length. These can distract a potential customer, causing them to interrupt the film, something we want to avoid at all costs. Some YouTube ads last just 5 seconds! For company/business promotion, this time can be perfectly sufficient.

A promotional video or promotional spot is a more elaborate form of advertising, typically viewed secondarily by customers. Its purpose is to satisfy the curiosity of already interested customers and provide a broader dose of in-depth information about the key elements and features of a brand, product, or service. While the video is longer, the information it provides is quite comprehensive. This allows viewers to spend more time analyzing and comparing the necessary information. This should lead to a purchasing decision – we now have a solid understanding and answers to the most important questions.

Other forms found in video marketing, such as brand image films or corporate videos, first of all, they emphasize the company's values, presenting its mission and employees, while the product or service appears in the background, rather subtly.

Promotional video or spot?
A spot is associated with a very short, dynamic video format, while a film is inherently longer and more concise. A spot typically lasts from 5 to 90 seconds, while a film ranges from one to several minutes. Therefore, it's possible to speak of a short advertising film, but it's unlikely to speak of a medium-length spot. However, these terms are often used interchangeably, and the actual form of the film depends on the script and editing.

A good product, as we know, is the result of a well-functioning business, whether in Warsaw or New York. A commercial script can also include a subtle image message – for companies, sales are just as important as how the customer perceives the entire scope of the company's activities.

In the following promotional spot for wallet manufacturer Peterson, our film studio used animation to bring the products to life, creating humorous situations involving them. This makes the film lighthearted and enjoyable to watch.
