CASE STUDY

Mutefish – Casi Español — rhythm and visual creation in post-production

“Casi Español” is one of soul seed media’s first post-production projects. In this project, we were not responsible for the direction or cinematography — we took over the finished footage at the music video post-production stage. Our task was to edit the material and create a distinctive visual character that complemented the energy and stylistic diversity of Mutefish’s music.

The challenge

The recorded footage had to be transformed into a coherent music video whose rhythm and character matched the band’s lively, stylistically diverse music.

In a project like this, editing is not merely a technical process. It is during post-production that the pace, accents and the way in which the image responds to the music are defined.

Editing as part of the music

We built the structure of the music video in direct relation to the rhythm and changing energy of the track. The choice of shots, the length of the cuts and their sequence enabled us to organise the material and give it the right dynamics.

The aim was not merely to connect the recorded scenes smoothly, but to create an edit that itself becomes part of the musical expression.

Visual creation of the image

Another important part of the work was developing the visual character of the film. Post-production allowed us to give the individual shots a coherent form and create a distinctive visual language.

This was an example of a project in which a significant part of the music video’s final character was created only after the shoot — in the editing room and during work on the visual layer.

Mutefish’s multicultural sound

Mutefish was formed by musicians from different countries and musical traditions and was associated with Ireland’s street and club scene.

Their music combined Eastern European influences with traditional Irish music, as well as elements of reggae, jazz and other genres. This diversity naturally suited the energetic and free-flowing form of the music video.
