CASE STUDY
ITwares — a film planned before the cameras started rolling
ITwares specialises in the design, construction and equipment of server rooms and data centres. Our task was to create a promotional film presenting a modern containerised data centre in a clear, dynamic way, with precise control from the first shot to the last.
The challenge
A technological facility consists of many elements that may look similar to viewers outside the industry. The film needed to show both the complete solution and its most important details while maintaining a dynamic pace and an engaging visual form.
For a production like this, we did not want to build the film only during editing. The order of shots, directions of movement, framing and transitions between different parts of the facility had to be planned in advance.
Our approach
We began with a location recce and documentation meeting at the facility. We familiarised ourselves with the space, production possibilities and the elements of the data centre that needed to appear in the film.
Based on this, we created a storyboard showing the individual shots. We then edited the storyboard images into a previs — a working visualisation of the entire film that allowed us to check the sequence of scenes, pacing and overall structure before filming began.

Storyboard and previs
The previs made it possible to see the planned film in a simplified form before the shoot. Instead of assessing individual frames, we could work with the client to see how the shots would function together.
Following the client's feedback, we refined the storyboard, adjusted individual shots and finalised the structure of the film. As a result, before arriving on set we knew exactly what material we needed to capture.
Shot-by-shot production
During filming, we followed the prepared storyboard shot by shot. The precise plan allowed us to control framing, camera movement and the shooting order while reducing the amount of accidental or unnecessary footage.
We also added drone footage to show the facility and its surroundings from a wider perspective.

RESULT
A shoot built around a film planned in advance
Precision instead of improvisation
Refining the film at the storyboard and previs stage meant that the actual shoot became the execution of an agreed plan rather than a search for the concept while filming.
Technology presented clearly
The finished film guides the viewer through the different elements of the modern containerised data centre, combining infrastructure details, wider views of the facility and drone footage into one coherent presentation.
